"If your God is so mighty, why doesn't He speak my language?"
A Cakchiquel (Guatemala) man to SIL founder William Cameron Townsend
The Linguistics Department keeps very busy working closely with researchers from SIL and other institutions. Still, each year our linguistics consultants also make time to assist several university students with polishing their theses, with very tangible results:
“Dr. S. Anderson and Ms. G. Boyd of SIL played an important part in my linguistics training. Dr. Anderson helped me significantly in the scientific domain when I was part of the BASAL (Basic Standardisation of All African Languages) programme, specifically with developing a phonology and orthography for the Tuki language. As for Ms. Boyd, she helped me with developing an accurate orthography for Tuki. Even better, she helped me with my Masters’ thesis in linguistics on Tuki verb morphology, which I completed at University of Yaounde I with top grades.”
