"If your God is so mighty, why doesn't He speak my language?"
A Cakchiquel (Guatemala) man to SIL founder William Cameron Townsend
From April 2 – 6, 2009, SIL Cameroon had the privilege to welcome Mr. Freddy Boswell, the Executive Director of SIL International. This was the first visit of Mr. Boswell to Cameroon. He met with the leadership team, the executive Committee and with the personnel of SIL Cameroon. He came at the right time to give input into the preparations for the triennial conference. It was good to hear that the plans that SIL Cameroon is making fit very well with the international focus of the organization. The international focus of SIL is on greater sharing, stronger partnerships and more local involvement. This is clearly reflected in the plans for SIL Cameroon and he thus endorsed these heartily.
SIL Cameroon is a part of a large organization, working in many countries all over the world. The main focus is the same everywhere: serving the language communities of the world with language based development. There is probably no other organization in the world that has done more to document the world’s languages and to serve them, whether they are in Asia, Europe the America’s or Africa.
Mr. Boswell served in the Solomon’s Islands as a linguist and translator and later as branch director. He later moved on to become international translation coordinator, Vice President for Academic Affairs and became Executive Director of SIL International in 2008.
